CONWAY, S.C. - Freshman Rachel Ball posted a second place finish in the one mile run to highlight the performance of the University of Rio Grande women's track & field squad in the Shamrock Invitational, which concluded Saturday at Coastal Carolina University's Doug Shaw Stadium.
Ball, a native of Chillicothe, Ohio, finished the course in a time of 5:42.36 - nearly four seconds behind event winner Vivian Ruiz of Concord University.
The meet - which attracted more than 60 schools representing all three divisions of the NCAA and the NAIA - was not a scored event, meaning team champions were not awarded.
Eight other athletes representing the RedStorm managed top 10 finishes in their respective events. Three of the eight set new school records in the process.
