[Men's Track & Field] Cummings, Hickman lead Rio at Purdue

    WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - University of Rio Grande freshman Jordon Cummings secured a spot in the U.S. Junior Nationals, while fellow frosh D.J. Hickman earned a berth to the upcoming NAIA National Championships based on their respective performances at Saturday's Dave Rankin Invitational hosted by Purdue University.
    Cummings, a native of Columbus, Ohio, cleared 2.11m to finish in second place in the high jump and, at the same time, punch his ticket to the U.S. Junior Nationals, which are scheduled for June 25-28 in Eugene, Ore.
    Hickman, who hails from Dayton, Ohio, reached the "B" standard for qualifying for the NAIA national meet by finishing third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.91. He finished just behind sophomore teammate Nate Kosnich (Pickerington, OH), who was second in a time of 14.89.
    The NAIA National Championship meet is scheduled for May 21-23 at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
